Hey everybody. Welcome to Ms. Glass 1st grade's webpage. We are glad that you are here. Statistics show that parental involvement is associated with higher student achievement. Students who recieve support from their parents in school are more likely to enroll in higher-level programs, pass their classes, attend school regularly, have better social skills and move onto post-secondary education. I have designed this web page to help keep the parents of my students better connected with what is going on in our classroom. Family members of students can access classroom information, our weekly newsletter, current class projects and assignments, our classroom reading list, classroom rules, material and supply list, links to our school website and my email, and ways in which families can help in the classroom. I encourage family members to log on to the web page frequently and keep up with what we are doing in the classroom. Your chihld will begin to flourish this year in amazing new ways and I do not want parents and familymembers to miss out on any of it. Most children enter first grade being able to name the letters and identify the sounds. Knowing the first 50 sight words, such as: “you,” “the,” and “a,” are also important. Your first grader will learn how to read, write, and spell many sight words this year. Reading will be the most important thing you can do with your child this year. Here is a reading list of books your child may enjoy.
